Origin and history
Hólar fue la segunda diócesis de Islandia (1106). Su catedral guarda el «Hólabríkin», magnífico retablo de madera dorada y policromada comprado en los Países Bajos hacia 1520. La sede se asocia al obispo Guðmundur Arason «el Bueno» (s. XIII), célebre por su ardiente devoción a la Virgen María en aquella isla del norte.
