Marian title of Torrelodones (Community of Madrid)

Patron of the historical core of Torrelodones, known as "El Pueblo," opposite the core of La Colonia. The Parish of the Assumption (Camino de Valladolid 26) retains a bull of Pope Pius IV dated December 6, 1563 that authorized the construction of the early temple, with municipal budget documents of the 19th century that testify to patronage. The advocation of the Assumption responds to the parish title established in the 16th century, without local tradition of finding.

The image and the sanctuary

The current image is a modern size made by sculptor Vicente in 1962. However, the temple also keeps a baroque size that was saved from destruction during the Civil War (1936): unlike other Madrid municipalities, the original image was hidden by the neighbors and not destroyed.
