Origin and history

The Marists landed on the Island of the Pinos on August 8, 1848 and opened the mission on August 15 under the title of Our Lady of the Assumption. The church of Vao was raised by Fr. Goujon around 1860; behind it, a path goes up to a Chapel-sanctuary of Our Lady of the Salette that dominates the bay.
