Marian devotion
Our Lady of Beauty
La Virgen eucarística · Lepe (Huelva)
Patrona de Lepe, Our Lady of Bella is a rare "Eucharistic Virgin": her image, open, carries a sacred in her chest. Its May Romeria in the area of the Terron is one of the most beloved of the onubense coast.
Origin and history
The image is an anonymous size from the late 15th or early 16th century, in walnut wood. Since the 16th century devotion is linked to the Franciscan convent founded in 1513 by the Ayamonte Counts in the area of the Terron, called Our Lady of Bella. In the 18th century the place was already a pilgrimage center; after the deamortization, the image moved to Lepe.
Its most unique feature is to be an open Virgin with a sacred in her chest, which underlines her relationship with the Eucharist. Patrona de Lepe and Mayor Honoraria Perpetua since 1956, was canonically crowned on 13 June 1992. The current Romeria al Terrón began in 1966.
