Origin and history

Madonna della Bruna is the patron of Matera, with a feast of more than six centuries (established in 1389 by Pope Urban VI). The legend tells that a peasant took a mysterious woman in his car who revealed herself as the Virgin and asked to be driven every year in a decorated car.

Party and devotion

Su fiesta, el 2 de julio, culmina con el célebre «strazzo»: el pueblo asalta y desmonta el espectacular carro triunfal de cartón, repartiéndose sus trozos como reliquia.

Link to the Rosary

In the face of this venerated image, the Rosary becomes the simple prayer of ever: to take account and speak with the Mother, ten to ten. Who prays the Rosary here joins the centuries of pilgrims who entrusted their sorrows and graces to Mary.
