The hermitage of Our Lady of the Fuensana, Patron of Pizarra, in a place of deep Christian root, rises on an ancient semi-rusty MozArab church, next to a spring.

Origin and history

The local tradition places the origin of devotion in 1566, when an adobe septum was sunk, a Marian-sized furnace appeared; the image was taken to the bishop of Malaga, Francisco Blanco Salcedo, and returned to Pizarra, where the hermitage was erected for his worship.

The hermitage was built in the 16th century on an ancient semi-rusty MozArab church, dating from experts in the IX-X centuries; it was restored in the early 18th century and its current facade is from the early 20th century. Patrona and Mayor Mayor Perpetua de Pizarra, its most characteristic feature is the water spring that, according to tradition, sprout when the hermitage was built, origin of the title "Fuensanta." The party is on August 15, with transfer to the villa on the 14th.
