Marian devotion
Our Lady of Fuensanta
Patroness of Murcia and her garden
From a spring in the saw - the "holy source" - was born devotion to the Virgin of Fuensanta, to whom the bats come in Romeria to entrust the city, the garden and its crops.
Origin and history
The advocation is linked to a spring or "holy source" in the saw near Murcia, where an early focus of Marian devotion emerged. Over time, the place was consolidated as a sanctuary to which the farmers and neighbors of the garden came to ask for the protection of the Virgin over the crops, the irrigation water and the health of the families.
The current image is a size of Baroque times, which happened to previous images and became the center of this devotion. The Virgin of Fuensana was proclaimed patron of Murcia and canonically crowned in 1927. The image is regularly moved to the Cathedral of Murcia in begging and parties, in two great romaneries - in spring and September - that mark the life of the city.
