Marian devotion
Our Lady of the Coronade Market
Patrona de Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz)
Mary Most Holy of the Coronada Market is the patron of Jerez de la Frontera, venerated in the basilica of the Merced, one of the oldest and most rooted Marian devotions in the city.

Origin and history
The Jerezan merchant tradition shows that the image was found in 1268 in an oven of cooking tiles when the convent of the Merced was founded, which was linked to St Peter Pascual; from there would start his veneration. La ciudad la habría aclamado como patrona agar 1272, con jura solemnly en 1300.
The documented history shows a strong devotion with the merchant presence after the Reconquist, attested to in religious acts already in the 15th century. The patronage was confirmed in the 20th century, and the image received the canonical coronation in 1960. Its temple has a smaller basilica range.
The sources differ in the exact year of coronation (1960 or 1961); the finding of 1268 belongs to tradition.
