Our Lady of La Nueva is the patron saint of San Martín de Valdeiglesias (Madrid), nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos mountains. Her hermitage, built in 1384, was submerged by the waters of the San Juan reservoir in 1956, and a new place of worship was subsequently built at the foot of the reservoir. Tradition recounts a miracle of the Virgin Mary that eradicated a plague that nearly decimated the town.
