Origin and history
The basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro is the largest Christian church in the world. Built between 1986 and 1989 and inspired by the Basilica of St. Peter of the Vatican, it was accepted as a gift and consecrated by John Paul II on September 10, 1990. It is the most imposing Marian sanctuary in sub-Saharan Africa.
