Our Lady of Solitude is the patron saint of Arganda del Rey (Madrid). Since the 17th century, with the churches of Valtierra and Vilches in ruins, the faithful transferred their devotion to Our Lady of Solitude, who became established as a popular patron saint, especially after the War of Independence of 1808.

The image and the sanctuary

It is venerated in its hermitage in Arganda; the image is the work of the sculptor José Ginés (1810).

Sponsorship and coronation

Patron saint of Arganda del Rey. She was canonically crowned on June 27, 2010, on the occasion of the bicentenary of the carving, by the bishop of Alcalá de Henares.

Party and devotion

Its patron saint festivities are celebrated on the second Saturday of September. Devotion is a defining characteristic of the place.
