Estilo: neogótico (inaugurada el 15 de agosto de 1886)
Promotor: José do Canto

Origin and history

The chapel is documented to José do Canto, famous for his gardens and his patronage, who ordered it to be built on the banks of the Lagoa das Furnas and opened on August 15, 1886. The divulgative tradition relates to a promise made during the serious illness of his wife, Maria Guilhermina.

It is considered one of the richest and most original temples in the archipelago. The set also worked as a family crypt, where members of the do Canto family rest. Its location next to the lake and its architecture give it a place of recollection, gratitude and prayer for the deceased.

«Nuestra Señora de las Victorias, vence en nosotros todo mal, ruega por nosotros.»
