Origin and history

The Cordobese tradition places the origin of the cult in the reconquest of 1236 and links it to Fernando III, who would have promoted the image after the take of Córdoba, raising the primitive sanctuary on an ancient Muslim watchtower.

The sources agree that it is the first extramurous sanctuary of Córdoba and one of the oldest in the city and province. It is popularly known as "the Conqueror" and "the Captain," its devotion is deeply rooted, associated with the memory of the Christian conquest and the annual Romry of the first Sunday of May, with floral offering.

«Nuestra Señora de Linares, Capitana de tu pueblo, ruega por nosotros.»

The joint patronage with Fuensanta and a canonical coronation do not safely record in the sources.
