Our Lady of the Lilies
The Virgin of the Red Font · Alcoy (Alicante)
Patrona de Alcoy, Our Lady of the Lilies is to be venerated in the sanctuary of the Red Font, in the middle of the saw, where the people go up in Rome as a tribute to their patron.
Origin and history
The tradition places the origin on August 21, 1653, when the págite Antoni Bonaventura Guerau found some white lilies in the Red Font in whose bulbs the image of the Virgin appeared.
The documented history reflects the successive construction of hermites in the area: the first one opened in 1663, reforms in 1720, ruin in 1742 and rebuilding; the present temple was raised between 1886 and 1891. His devotion is expressed especially in the Romry to the Red Font, in a natural environment of great beauty.
