Our Lady of the Martyrs of Ono (Futuna)

Marian devotion

Origin and history

The Church of Our Lady of the Martyrs, in Ono (Futuna), blessed on December 8, 1842, stands next to the shrine of Saint Peter Chanel, the protomartyr of Oceania, a Marist martyr in Futuna in 1841. Mary thus accompanies the blood of the first martyr of the Pacific.

Celebration and devotion

Marian devotion linked to the protomartyr of Oceania. The devotion is a hallmark of her community.

Link with the Rosary

In the most remote islands of the Pacific, where faith often arrived by sea, the Rosary remains the simple prayer that unites every heart with Mary, from island to island and from generation to generation.
