Origin and history

Since the Middle Ages there has been in Týnice a place of Marian devotion linked to the Cistercians of the monastery of Plasythey received the property in 1230. This monastic link is a documented historical data and explains that the place would develop as Probotism (dependent house or priory) and regional pilgrimage center.

In the 18th century, the Abbot Eugenio Tyttlfamous for its intense promotion of Marian devotion, he decided to renew this sanctuary in a monumental way. For this purpose he commissioned the project to the Baroque architect Jan Blažej Santini-AichelThe first stone of the new church was placed in 1711, and the set - temple and dependencies - was not finished until 1762. Shortly after the josefin reforms, the monastery of Plasy was abolished and Marianská Týnice declined as a monastic center, although it remained the memory of its pilgrimages and "miracles", very present in local tradition.

Current sources (local museum and official tourism) highlight the nature of ancient place of Marian pilgrimage and the importance of the sanctuary in the religious history of Western Bohemia. They do not, however, contain precise accounts of early apparitions or extraordinary events associated with a concrete image, beyond the general references to graces and cures attributed to the intercession of the Virgin in this place, which belong above all to the field of the devotional tradition. When it comes to "the sanctuary of pilgrimages and miracles," the popular memory of favors and vows is collected, not a "canonical" narrative of apparitions with a documented ecclesial process.

The image and the sanctuary

The sources consulted focus on the arquitectura del santuario and do not provide a detailed and secure description of a imagen marian concrete (type, material, precise iconography) that works today as a universally recognized "headline" image. It does not contain, in the accessible documentation, a technical description of the sculpture or main painting of Our Lady of Marianská Týnice. As a result, the image venerated Marian, it can only be said with certainty that it is a representation of the Virgin Mary in her mystery of the Annunciation or Assumption (according to the different denominations of the temple); the specific iconographic and material details no constan verifiable in available sources.

El sanctuary is known as Church of pilgrimage of the Virgin Mary in Marianská Týnice, officially described as a church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary o de la Assumption of the Virgin Maryaccording to the different tourist and cultural presentations. It is a Baroque monument of great importance, including among the important national cultural monuments of Czech Republic. The set, designed by Santini-Aichel, features a centralized plant and an elaborate spatial articulation typical of its style, with church and adjacent ambulatories (ambiity). Today it houses the Museum and gallery in the north of the Plzeț region, which occupies part of the old cysterciense complex.

At the present ecclesial level, the sources present it as "pilgrimage church" and "old place of pilgrimage and proboštstvé cysterciense," but no official reference has been found to its elevation as minor basilica or the explicit declaration as "national sanctuary"; therefore, as to the specific canon range, no consta a higher title than that of a local or diocesan sanctuary or pilgrimage church.

Sponsorship and coronation

La advocación de Our Lady of Marianská Týnice is closely linked to the region of Western Bohemiaespecially the environment of Kralovice and the old monastery of Plasy. The sources speak of a regional irradiation sanctuary; there are no official statements that designate it as the principal patron of a city, diocese or Czech nation. From the point of view of the available documentation, it can only be said that it acts as a regional Marian devotion centerwithout a broader formal canonical patronage that can be documented.

As regards canonical coronation, the databases consulted (including official tourist presentation and information of the museum and the sanctuary itself) no documented canonical coronation of the image of the Virgin of Marianská Týnice. In the absence of verifiable data on date, pontiff or pontifical delegate, it must be stated: does not contain a documented canonical coronation.

Party and devotion

The dedication of the church is related to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary o la Assumption of the Virgin, and traditionally the great pilgrimages in the Central European Marian shrines are organized around these solemnities or major Marian parties. However, in the current available documentation on Marianská Týnice a "main party" of its own is not accurately indicated of the advocation with date established as a specific mass day. Therefore, the specific date of a patron feast of the sanctuary no consta.

The devotion is expressed above all in the character of place of pilgrimage. A Czech report on Marianská Týnice expressly presents it as "the sanctuary of pilgrimages and miracles," underlining the tradition of going there with particular requests and intentions. The flow of pilgrims has varied according to historical periods (cistercian boom, decline after josefin reforms, heritage recovery in recent times), but the place maintains its spiritual profile through liturgical celebrations, devotional visits and a living memory of Marian intercession in the area.

At present, the complex also plays a cultural role such as museum and gallerywhich attracts many visitors, including pilgrims and religious tourists; however, the specific annual influx figures no constan in the sources consulted. Along with the cultural dimension, the presence of the pilgrimage church allows Marian devotion to continue, especially in the main Marian feasts of the universal liturgy.

Link to the Rosary

The sources on Marianská Týnice are concentrated in the history of the place, the Baroque architecture and the tradition of pilgrimages, but there are no explicit references to a particular link between this advocation and the prayer of the Rosary (such as a documented historical fellowship of the Rosary, or a specific title related to the Rosary).

In this context, the link with the Rosary is at the level General of Marian Spirituality: by being a sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary, around the great mysteries of her life (Annunciation, Asunción), the Rosary appears naturally as a privileged prayer to contemplate with Mary the mysteries of Christ. In a church where Mary's presence in the history of salvation is especially celebrated, the prayer of the Rosary allows:

– Meditar los joyful mysteries, en particular la Anunciación, tan relacionada con la dedicación del templo. – Contemplar los glorious mysterieswhere the Asun is included

A flower for the Virgin

Pray Hail Mary
