Origin and history
In Qaraqosh, a city of Christian majority occupied by the Islamic State since 2014, a sanctuary was erected after the reconstruction to Mary, Mother of the persecuted Christians (one of the few in the world under this title). It commemorates the Christian exodus of August 6, 2014 and is a sign of the resilience of the Christians of Iraq.
