Pray Hail MaryDocumented ecclesial history
The ecclesial documentation preserved by the Archdiocese of Bogotá presents the history of Our Lady of the Graces of Torcoroma from chronicles and testimonies related to Ocaña. The source distinguishes that historical memory from the present life from the cult: it mentions the approval of the Torchoroman cult by Pius X in 1906, the statement of the Virgin as the principal patron of the Diocese of Ocaña in 1963 and the subsequent actions related to the pontifical crown and the own mass. These are data from the history of worship and devotion; they do not allow to turn every detail of the story of the finding into an independent historical affirmation.
The Episcopal Conference of Colombia confirms the diocesan celebration of the feast and the ninth in honor of Our Lady of Torcoroma. The existence of a patron party, public prayer and pastoral care document a living Catholic cult. The fact sheet retains the distinction between the ecclesial approval of veneration and the assessment of the extraordinary phenomena associated with the tradition of image.
The Shrine and Ocaña
The advocation is linked to Ocaña and the Agua de la Virgen region. The name of Torcoroma comes from the mountain and the place traditionally related to the finding of the image. The file maintains the point of location that it already had; the mapping consultation for this lot did not return an unequivocal geometry of the rural sanctuary and no building coordinate is invented.
The image has also had a pastoral presence outside the place of origin. The ecclesial sources remember their relationship with the diocese, their feasts and the veneration of the faithful. The story of the theft and recovery of the image is preserved as a documented episode of the recent life of devotion, not as a miracle or as a supernatural test.
Tradition and ecclesial state
The narrative of the tree, the light and the discovery of the image are part of the Torchoroman tradition and the memory transmitted by chronists and devotees. The approval of the cult that the sources attribute to Pius X refers to veneration and its liturgical practices; it should not be automatically confused with a general statement on all the elements narrated in the tradition of apparition. That's why this file is talking about public veneration approved in its historical development and leaves every extraordinary account unaffirmed as a miracle.
Mary is venerated and asked to intercede; worship corresponds only to God. Devotion to Torcoroma is understood within the sacramental life and prayer of the Church, with Christ as the center.
