Origin and history

The devotion dates back to the 11th century: the tradition places in 1084 the veneration of a Roman size of the Virgin, Our Lady of Angels, in a hermitage next to the Cinca. St. Josemaría Escriva, healed as a child by intercession of this Virgin according to family devotion, was his entire life devoted to the place.

As the old hermitage was found in a precarious state, St. Josemaría in the 1960s promoted the construction of a new sanctuary, the work of the architect Heliodoro Dols, opened in 1975. Today TorreciCiudad is a great Marian pilgrimage center, very linked to the family and gratitude for the favors received.

"Our Lady of the Angels of Torreciudad, Mother of the Family, pray for us."

Canonical coronation: not recorded.
