Marian devotion
Our Lady of Walsingham
The «Nazaret de Inglaterra»
Walsingham was during the Middle Ages the great Marian sanctuary of England, with his replica of the Holy House of Nazareth. Deleted in the Reformation, his Catholic cult was reborn in the 20th century.

Origin and history
The tradition places the origin in 1061, when the English nobleman Richeldis de Faverches would have received a vision of the Virgin asking her to build a replica of the Holy House of Nazareth. Medieval devotion reached great fame as a place of pilgrimage and healing, deeply linked to the religious history of England.
After the English Reformation, the medieval sanctuary was suppressed and devotion disappeared for centuries. In contemporary times, the Catholic cult was recovered at Walsingham, with the present shrine at Houghton St.. Giles, today renovated Marian pilgrimage center.
