The image and the sanctuary

The image is venerated in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Eagle, located within the Alcalá Castle of Guadaíra (province of Seville). The current size is baroque, probably from the 17th century. The sanctuary retains numerous exvotes of people who claim to have been healed or delivered from danger by their intercession, testimony to the arraigo of devotion.

Sponsorship and coronation

She is the patron of Alcalá de Guadaíra. His canonical coronation took place on 10 September 2000, chaired by Cardinal Carlos Amigo Vallejo.

Party and devotion

His main feast is the 15th of August, solemnity of the Assumption, with procession through the city. The tradition that presents it as a protector of the waters of the Guadaíra and the bakers of the town, which historically invoked it before taking the bread to Seville, is well known.

Link to the Rosary

The Brotherhood of the Virgin of the Eagle celebrates rosary of the aurora and other public rosaries during the ninth and the month of August, according to the brotherhood itself. It does not contain an ancient fellowship of the Rosary strictly linked to this advocation; the rosary is part of contemporary devotion and preparation for the feast.
