### Tradition and legend

According to the Breton tradition, devotion is linked to a simple man known as Salaün ar Foll ("Salaün the crazy / simple"), a poor and almost beggar who lived in the forest, illiterate, but of great Marian piety. It is said that the invocation "Hail Mary" was repeated incessantly and that, when he died, a lyrio whose petals miraculously recorded the words "Hail Mary." This sign would have moved the people and the ecclesiastical authorities to honor the Virgin by building a sanctuary there. The present church was later raised to the dignity of minor basilica (Notre-Dame du Folgoët), recognition that inserts it among the main Marian shrines of Britain. The coronation of the image of Notre-Dame du Folgoët took place in the 19th century (1888), in continuity with the movement of canonical coronations of Marian images promoted in France in that century, although it is not available in these sources of all the details of the decree and of the pontifical delegate.

It does not include a specific documented history for Colombia under this same title, beyond the possible private or local devotion inspired by the Breton advocation.

Party and devotion

In Britain, the great manifestation of devotion to Our Lady of Folgoët is the “Grand Pardon” (Great forgiveness), an important Romry and Marian party. Its main celebration takes place on first Sunday of Septemberwhen many faithful come on pilgrimage to the Basilica to honor the Virgin, to participate in the Eucharist, processions and penitential acts, in continuity with the ancient tradition of the pardons Bretons, which combine pilgrimage, confession, indulgences and popular feast.

There are no specific data from the sources consulted. Quantified flow (approximate number of pilgrims per year) nor a detailed calendar of liturgical celebrations throughout the year. It is clear, however, that this is a living sanctuary, with the presence of pilgrims, processions and manifestations of popular religiosity of the Breton culture.

In the Colombian context, no documented references to an official liturgical feast, canonical patronage or pilgrimage of national scope have been found specifically under the title "Our Lady of Folgoët," beyond possible private devotion or knowledge of the advocation among mariology scholars.

Link to the Rosary

It does not include, in the sources consulted, a specific and own link of the advocation of Our Lady of the Folgoët with the prayer of the Rosary (for example, official fellowship of the Rosary erected in the sanctuary, specific indulgences linked to the Rosary in that place, etc.).

However, as in most Marian shrines, the Rosary is part of the ordinary fabric of Marian piety: it is reasonable to assume - although there is no point - that many pilgrims pray the Rosary in the basilica, especially during the Grand Pardonas a traditional way of meditating on the mysteries of Christ's life with Mary. In this sense, the Rosary:

– ayuda a contemplar, con María, los misterios de la salvación, que la advocación de Folgoët recuerda de modo particular en el contexto de la misericordia y del perdón (propio del pardon bretón); – sostiene la vida de fe de los peregrinos que acuden al santuario, uniéndolos a la Virgen que, desde Le Folgoët, es signo de la cercanía de Dios a los pequeños y sencillos, como lo muestra la figura del “simple” Salaün en la tradición local.

As there is no specific legal or devotional link beyond this general dimension, the relationship with the Rosary is the same as any great Marian sanctuaryin which the prayer of the Marian crown accompanies and deepens the devotion to the Virgin.
