Virgin of the Lost Child

Patrona de Caudiel (Castellón)

Patrona de Caudiel, the Virgin of the Lost Child is a small old size linked to the memory of Saint Vincent Ferrer, venerated in a remarkable baroque shrimp.

Place: Caudiel, Castellón
Sanctuary: Church of St. John the Baptist and sanctuary of the Virgin of the Lost Child
Patroness: de Caudiel
Rasgo: Baroque shrimp; small size ("fangs")

Origin and history

The tradition shows that Saint Vincent Ferrer founded in Valencia a hospice under the title of the "Virgin of the Lost Children," to which he donated an image; when the hospice lost its function, the image would have passed to the Augustino convent of Caudiel, where it was the object of special veneration with the title of Virgin of the Lost Child.

The current image replaced a primitive destroyed in the Civil War; it is a small size of about 27 cm, associated by the material to the nickname of "Virgen del Pumillo." The Baroque shrimp, the work of Juan Bautista Pérez Castiel at the beginning of the 18th century, is one of the most remarkable rooms of the temple.

"Our Lady of the Lost Child, who always seek us, pray for us."

Canonical party and coronation: not recorded in the sources.

Sources: Caudiel reviews; temple documentation (10-6-2026 consultation). Patronacción, baroque shrimp (Pérez Castiel) and character of the size verified. Vincentian origin: tradition. Party and coronation: no record.
