Marian devotion
Our Lady of the Quinche
Mother and Queen of Ecuador
The "Little One" of El Quinche is the most beloved Marian advocation in Ecuador. Every night from November 20 to 21, thousands of pilgrims walk to his sanctuary to give him thanks and trust him with his life.
A Siglo XVI imagen
The image was carved in cedar wood between 1586 and 1588 by the Chilean sculptor Diego de Robles. In the first place, he went to El Quinche, where devotion was consolidated in the late 16th century between stories of favors and protection on the roads and mountains.
The national sanctuary
In time, El Quinche became the country's main Marian sanctuary. His great pilgrimage culminates in the night of the 20th to the 21st of November. In 1985 the sanctuary was raised to the lower basilica by San Juan Pablo IIwho visited El Quinche that same year during his trip to Ecuador.
Documented update: sanctuary and location
The Vicaría Virgen de El Quinche, linked to the Archdiocesan Church of Quito, identifies the parish of El Quinche and publishes for it the direction of the sanctuary on March 10th, along with its hours of mass and pastoral attention. This data confirms the current ecclesial location of devotion; it does not in itself convert the stories of favors into recognized miracles, nor does it amount to a pronunciation about an apparition.
The OpenStreetMap geometry corresponding to the Catholic Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Presentation of El Quinche has been used for the map: -0.1111, -78.2960. It's a verified building point and not a memory-calculated coordinate. The tab retains its title, history and previous content; here only this source and location constancy is added.
