Our Lady of the Rosary of Talpa
One of the "three queens of Jalisco" · Mexico
Next to Zapopan and San Juan de los Lagos, the Virgin of the Rosary of Talpa completes the Marian trilogy of Jalisco. Pilgrims from all over the west of Mexico come to their basilica.
Origin and history
The local tradition links the image with the so-called "Miracle of Renovation" of 1644: a small image of cane paste, very damaged, would have been renewed in an unexpected way, which revived devotion and the influx of faithful. Around that fact, Talpa's fame grew as a thank-you sanctuary.
The present temple, a large churrigueresque-style basilica raised in the 18th century, welcomes the pilgrims who come walking from far, especially on the traditional routes to Talpa. His title of Our Lady of the Rosary explicitly unites this advocation with the prayer of the Rosary.
