Origin and history

La advocación de Nuestra Señora del Yaudet (Our Lady of Yaudet) is linked to the small coastal town of Ploulec, in the department of Cótes-d'Armor, Brittany, Franceon an ancient promontory of Galo-Roman occupation that dominates the mouth of the Léguer River. This archaeological and landscape location is well documented by the studies on the site of the Yaudet and by the Breton toponym, which keep memory of an ancient oppidum or fortified settlement of the Roman and medieval high. Since the sources available online in Spanish and in general ecclesial channels consulted do not provide a detailed synthesis, no constan precise dates of the first Marian implantation in this place.

Tradition and legend. Local piety places Marian devotion in this promontory very old, associating the cult of the Virgin with the Christianization of a pagan enclave by the sea and the protection of the sailors and people of the coast. In some summaries of Breton devotions the Virgin of Yaudet is referred to as a protector of the families of the area and of the sailors; however, in the verifiable sources consulted no constan stories of concrete apparitions or miracles clearly dated or approved which have been imposed as the core of tradition.

Documented history. The accessible written documentation attests to the existence of a Marian church or sanctuary in the Yaudet, dependent on the parish of Ploulec'h, since medieval times, although in the data managed no constan exact foundational dates, neither bulls nor specific decrees that allow for the precise establishment of the beginning of the worship of Our Lady of the Yaudet. The continuity of the temple and the place as a regional pilgrimage centre is confirmed by the annual celebration of the traditional "pardon" Breton in honor of Notre-Dame du Yaudet in August, who keeps alive the historical memory of devotion. Since diocesan and sanctuary sources have not been available in Spanish through the searches used, other more fine historical details no constan with the required safety.

(Important note of rigour: the header "Ploulec'h, Department of Brittany, Colombia" is geographically incorrect. Ploulec'h belongs to Côtes-d'Armor, region of Brittany, in FranceNot in Colombia. There is no homonymous advocation in Colombia linked to this sanctuary.)

The image and the sanctuary

The most striking peculiarity of this advocation is its unique image known as Our Lady lying down o "Lying Virgin". This is a representation in which the Virgin Mary appears retracted, very rare iconographic feature in Western Marian imagery. The sources consulted in Spanish do not provide a complete technical description (height, author, precise chronology, style or restorations), nor is the material (wood, stone or other) of the sculpture, so, following the criterion of rigour, it must be stated: is not sure the material or exact dating of the image from available information. Nor do they contain, in accessible sources, detailed iconographic details about the exact position of the hands, the Child Jesus, additional attributes or symbols that accompany it.

The sanctuary corresponds to the church dedicated to Our Lady of Yaudetlocated in the aforementioned promontory on the sea, in the jurisdiction of the parish of Ploulec'h. It is a temple of modest dimensions, typical of the Breton rural religious architecture, with strong integration into the landscape and the tradition of "pardons" and local pilgrimages. In accessible documentation no consta that this temple has been raised to the title of minor basilicaor to enjoy the official status of National sanctuary; its character is that of sanctuary or church of local / diocesan devotion. Nor has there been any explicit mention of a formal declaration of "diocesan sanctuary" by the diocese concerned, so that, with the available data, it should be simply indicated that this is a Marian shrine local no known special pontifical titles.

Sponsorship and coronation

At the level of official patronage, the sources identified do not indicate that Our Lady of the Yaudet has been proclaimed. patrona principal of a diocese, city or wider territory through a Pontifical or Episcopal Decree. The advocation has, above all, patronazgo local on the community of Ploulec'h and on the faithful who come to the pardon and the sanctuary, especially families and people linked to the sea, but no consta no title as the principal patron of the diocese, region or nation recognized by the Holy See or by a formal episcopal decree which may be quoted with certainty.

As for the canonical coronation, in the repertories consulted of Marian coronations and in the general sources on advocacy there is no Notre-Dame du Yaudet among the images crowned with a pontifical decree. In the absence of explicit documentation (bull, decree or reliable ecclesial chronicle that indicates date and authority), it must be clearly stated: does not contain a documented canonical coronation of the image of Our Lady of the Yaudet.

Party and devotion

The main liturgical and popular manifestation of this advocation is the traditional Our Lady of Yaudetheld in August. In the Breton context, the "pardon" is a religious feast that combines Eucharist, procession, prayers for conversion and forgiveness of sins, as well as their own cultural elements (songs, suits, encounter of families). The sources consulted indicate that the Yaudet pardon remains a significant annual event, but no constain the accessible documents, the exact date (specific day of August) and verified participation figures.

Devotion is expressed above all by:

– Peregrinaciones locales y regionales al santuario, especialmente en torno al pardon de agosto. – Ofrendas y plegarias encomendando la familia, el trabajo y la protección frente a los peligros del mar. – Vínculos con la identidad bretona, donde la figura de María, bajo diversas advocaciones locales, acompaña la vida cotidiana de los pueblos costeros.

They do not contain, in the sources consulted, unique traditions (specific miracles, famous exvotes, specific maritime processions, etc.) duly documented to be accurately described; if they exist, they have not been collected in accessible resources without resorting to conjectures, so they are not mentioned here.

Link to the Rosary

No specific historical relationship between Our Lady of the Yaudet y una the Rosarynor is it mentioned that the sanctuary has been erected as a rosarian sanctuary, nor that there is a feast of the Rosary that is linked to this advocation. Therefore, with the data handled, it should be indicated: there is no particular, legally established or historically prominent link between this advocation and the prayer of the Rosary.

However, as in most Marian shrines, the Rosary It is a natural part of the spiritual life of pilgrims and faithful. To contemplate Mary in her unique representation of Lying Virgin can encourage a serene meditation of the joyful, painful, glorious and luminous mysteriesin which the whole history of salvation is traveled in the company of the Mother of the Lord. The Rosary, prayed to the image of Our Lady of the Yaudet, helps:

– Unir la vida cotidiana –con sus trabajos, sufrimientos y esperanzas– a los misterios de Cristo. – Experimentar la cercanía de María como Mother and protector en medio de la fragilidad humana, simbolizada también en un entorno costero expuesto a los riesgos del mar. – Insertar la de
