From the Oracle of Arochukwu to the Rosary of the Igbo

The feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help took firm root after the arrival of the Redemptorists in 1987, with massive celebrations and great veneration of the icon, to which the faithful turn to ask for protection from violence and to give thanks.

For Arochukwu specifically, there is no documented Marian account linked to a specific Rosary devotion; local parish devotions may exist, but they are not found in recognized sources, and they are not fabricated. What is certain and verifiable is the broader context: where a feared oracle once stood, the Rosary became the daily prayer of families, a simple and trusting prayer with which the Igbo people embrace the Mother of God.
