The ice bridge of the rosaries
In the winter of 1879the community of Cap-de-la-Madeleine needed to transport stone from the other side of the San Lorenzo River to build your new church. The plan was simple: to wait for the river to freeze and cross the sled blocks over the ice. But that winter the river did not freeze enoughAnd the works seemed impossible.
Father Luc Désilets and the faithful did all they had left: entrust to the Virgin and pray the Rosary, promising to keep the old stone chapel as a sanctuary if the Mother helped them.
That prodigious step was recorded in the memory of the sanctuary as "the ice bridge" or, more tenderly, "the bridge of the rosaries"because it was attributed to the persevering prayer of the Rosary.
