In Abu Ghosh, a place traditionally identified with the ancient Kiriath-Yearim of the Bible, Mary is venerated under the title of Our Lady of the Ark of the Covenant. According to the biblical account, the Ark that held the presence of the Lord among his people rested in that location for many years before ascending to Jerusalem.

Devotion springs from a beautiful spiritual interpretation: if the ancient Ark contained the tablets of the Law and the manna, Mary is the new Ark, because she carried in her womb the Word made flesh. Thus, the memory of the holy place is prolonged in the figure of the Mother who brought the presence of God into the world.

It is important to make a distinction. The theological association between Mary and the Ark of the Covenant, as well as the identification of Abu Ghosh with the biblical Kiriath-Yearim, belongs to tradition. The identification of the place is ancient; the Marian formulation is later and devotional. However, a precise date for this Marian invocation is not found in the sources, nor is there a specific local source that rigorously details the history of the sanctuary or the image.

The connection with the Rosary is primarily theological and meditative: the Rosary contemplates precisely the mysteries of the Incarnation, of Christ present in Mary and born of her. However, no specific historical relationship between this devotion and the Rosary has been established.
