On the coast of Cameroon, one of the first missionary settlements of the colonial period received a name that was in itself a consecration: Marienberg, «el monte de María». Aquel gesto respondía a una costumbre muy querida de los misioneros de la época, que ponían colinas, escuelas, hospitales y misiones bajo la protección de la Virgen o de un misterio mariano. El nombre solo ya predicaba.

From Marienberg, catechesis, the foundation of parishes and Marian prayer were extended. It is consistent with the missionary praxis of time to state that there the Rosary was praying, as in other mission posts; however, it is necessary to be honest: no consta a specific document that narrates the first Rosary prayed on that hill, but the general fact of the strong Marian presence in Cameroonian missions.

Detailed public information about Marienberg is limited; it appears above all as the first missionary center and historical place of evangelization. No consta a story of apparitions approved by the Church, neither a national sanctuary with its own Marian title, nor miracles documented in serious press. It is reasonable to assume that they circulated oral accounts of Mary's protection of missionaries and people, but nothing verifiable with names and dates, so it is not affirmed.

What is certain is the fruit. In Cameroon, devotions to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Our Lady of Lourdes are widespread, with processions, votive offerings, and healings recounted in parish chronicles. And the Rosary is a devotion deeply rooted in Africa, prayed in families and small communities. The legacy of that hill with its Marian name remains alive in a people who quickly learned to call Mary Mother.
