The image
The image of Our Lady of China is a painting that represents the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, dressed in Chinese clothes. The image was painted in the 17th century by Jesuit missionaries.
The persecution
During the Cultural Revolution (1966- 1976), the Catholic faith was heavily pursued in China. Many churches were destroyed and the priests were imprisoned.
The clandestine faith
Despite persecution, the Catholic faith remained alive in the clandestine. Catholic families continued to pray the Rosary in their homes, transmitting the faith of generation in generation.
