Documented history
Maria Pilar Izquierdo was born in 1906. After an accident in 1926 he suffered from a serious disease and since 1927 he was affected by paraplegia and blindness. In the midst of these limitations he promoted a work dedicated to reproducing the active life of Christ through the works of mercy. The Missionary Work of Jesus and Mary was approved as a union in 1948; the institution then received diocesan and pontifical approval, according to the biography of the Holy See.
He died in 1945. The ecclesial cause distinguished his life, his virtues and the miracle presented for beatification. The Holy See contains the decree of heroic virtues of 18 December 2000 and the approval of the miracle of 7 July 2001. It was beatified in 2001 and its ecclesial state is that of beata de la Iglesia católica.
Disease and mercy
The disease is not reported here as an automatic explanation of holiness. The documented history shows how a woman with great physical limitations held a work oriented to service; the Church valued her life in a process of her own.
