Where is he?
The Sanctuary of Madonna della Gamba is in Desenzano al Serio, pedany of Albino, in the province of Bergamo (Lombardy, Italy). The Diocese of Bergamo identifies it as a place of Marian devotion; the location of the whole has been verified with OpenStreetMap.
Documented history
The Diocese of Bergamo indicates that the present sanctuary was built in the 18th century and was completed by 1740. The tourist information of Bergamo links it to the memory of a healing attributed to the Virgin in 1440, related to the young Venturina Bonelli.
Tradition
According to the devotional tradition, Mary would have cured the seriously ill leg of Venturina. The sanctuary retains the memory of this grace and the faithful come to it as a place of prayer and pilgrimage.
Legend
The detail of the mud applied to the leg is part of the story transmitted, but it does not contain in the sources consulted a contemporary document of 1440 that allows to present it as a proven history.

Documentary extension
The page of the Diocese of Bergamo describes a small initial chapel and the construction of the larger sanctuary during the 18th century, completed around 1740. In time the building was enriched with altars, decorations and works of art; the diocese mentions frescoes dedicated to the graces attributed to Madonna della Gamba and a crypt where they are preserved exvotes. They are traces of the devotional reception of the sanctuary and not an automatic certification of each healing.
The tourist information of Bergamo requires some visible elements of the whole: the church has one ship, under the altar is a sculptural group of Andrea Fantoni that recalls the account of the healing and in its walls are preserved pictures of the apparition and exvotes. It also notes that the feast of the sanctuary is held on October 9, accompanied by a fair in the nearby streets. The fountain calls the place of the Blessed Virgin of the Miracle of the Gamba, while the coordinate continues to represent the whole of Desenzano to the Serio, not the inside of the crypt.
