Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Nine days of prayer with the Virgin of Carmen, Mother and beauty of Carmel, who gave us the Holy Scapular. His party is held 16 July; the ninth is traditionally prayed of 7-15 Julybut it can be done at any time.

How you pray every day: the sign of the Cross → the act of contradiction → the prayer for every day with three Avemarias → the prayer of the day with a Hail → ask for the grace you want to reach → the final prayer.

Act of Contrition for Every Day

My God and my Lord: prostrate before Your sovereign Majesty, with all my being, with all my soul and all my heart, I adore You, I confess You, I bless You, I praise You, and I glorify You. I acknowledge You as my God and my Lord; in You I believe, in You I hope, and in You I trust that You will forgive me my sins and grant me Your grace, and perseverance in it, and the glory You have promised to those who persevere in Your love. I love You above all things. To You I confess my profound ingratitude and all my faults and sins, for all of which I repent, and I ask You to graciously grant me forgiveness.

I am sorry, my God, for having offended you, because you are who you are. I firmly resolve, with the help of your divine grace, never to sin again, to avoid the occasions of offending you, to confess my sins, to make amends for them, and to strive in all things to serve and please you. Forgive me, Lord, so that with a clean and pure soul I may praise the Blessed Virgin Mary, your Mother and my Lady, and obtain through her powerful intercession the special grace I ask for in this novena, if it be for your greater honor and glory and the good of my soul. Amen.

Prayer for every day

O Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Mother also of sinners, and special Protector of those who wear your holy Scapular: for which His divine Majesty exalted you, choosing you to be His true Mother, I beseech you to obtain for me from your beloved Son the pardon of my sins, the amendment of my life, the salvation of my soul, the remedy for my needs, the consolation of my afflictions and the special grace that I ask for in this novena, if it is fitting for His greater honor and glory and the good of my soul.

That I, Lady, to achieve this I rely on your powerful intercession, and I wish I had the spirit of all the angels, saints and righteous ones in order to be able to praise you worthily; and uniting my voices with their affections, I greet you a thousand times.

Pray three Hail Marys and then the prayer of the day

The nine days

Day one

O Virgin of Carmel, Most Holy Mary, who were foreshadowed in that little cloud which the great prophet of God, Elijah, saw rising from the sea, and whose rain abundantly fertilized the earth, signifying the purest fruitfulness with which you gave your beloved Son Jesus to the world, for the universal salvation of our souls! I beg you, Lady, to obtain for me from His Majesty abundant showers of grace, so that my soul may bear abundant fruits of virtues and good works, so that, serving Him perfectly in this life, I may merit to enjoy Him in eternity. Thus, Lady, I humbly beseech you, saying:

God save you, Queen and Mother of mercy...

Ask for the particular grace you wish to obtain. End with the closing prayer.

Second day

O Virgin of Carmel, Most Holy Mary, who, through your singular love for the Carmelites, favored them with your familiar presence and sweet conversations, enlightening them with the light of your teaching and example, which they so happily enjoyed! I beseech you, Lady, to assist me with your special protection, obtaining for me from your blessed Son Jesus the light to know His infinite goodness and to love Him with all my soul; to know my sins and to weep for them; to know how I should conduct myself in order to serve Him with all perfection; and so that my dealings and conversations may always be for His greater honor and glory and the edification of my neighbors. Thus, Lady, I humbly beseech you, saying:

God save you, Queen and Mother of mercy...

Ask for the particular grace you wish to obtain. End with the closing prayer.

Third day

O Virgin of Carmel, Most Holy Mary, who deigned to accept with singular love the filial offering of the Carmelites, who among all mortals were the first to build a temple in your honor on Mount Carmel, where they fervently gathered to worship and praise you! I beg you, Lady, grant that my soul may be a living temple of the Majesty of God, adorned with all virtues, where He may always dwell, loved, adored, and praised by me, never to be occupied by the disordered affections of the temporal and earthly. Thus, Lady, I humbly beseech you, saying:

God save you, Queen and Mother of mercy...

Ask for the particular grace you wish to obtain. End with the closing prayer.

Fourth day

O Virgin of Carmel, Most Holy Mary, who, to show your most special love for the Carmelites, honored them with the sweet name of your children and brothers, encouraging their trust with such singular favor, so that they might seek in you, as in a loving Mother, remedy, consolation, and protection in all their needs and afflictions, moving them to imitate your sublime virtues! I beg you, Lady, look upon me as a loving Mother and obtain for me the grace to imitate you, so that I may worthily be called your child as well, and that my name may be inscribed in the book of predestination of the children of God and brothers of my Lord Jesus Christ. Thus, Lady, I humbly beseech you, saying:

God save you, Queen and Mother of mercy...

Ask for the particular grace you wish to obtain. End with the closing prayer.

Fifth day

O Virgin of Carmel, Most Holy Mary, who, to defend the Carmelites, your children, when there was an attempt to extinguish the sacred Order of Carmel, always showing the love and singular predilection with which you protect them, commanded the Supreme Pontiff Honorius III to receive them kindly and confirm their institute! I beseech you, Lady, defend me from all my enemies of soul and body, so that I may always live in tranquility and peace in the holy service of God and you. Thus, Lady, I humbly beseech you, saying:

God save you, Queen and Mother of mercy...

Ask for the particular grace you wish to obtain. End with the closing prayer.

Sixth day

O Virgin of Carmel, Most Holy Mary, who, to mark the Carmelites as your special children, enriched them with the singular gift of the holy Scapular, linking to it so many graces and favors for those who devoutly wear it and, fulfilling their obligations, strive to live in such a way that, imitating your virtues, they show that they are your children! I beg you, Lady, to obtain for me the grace to always live as a true Christian and a loving member of the confraternity of the holy Scapular, so that I may merit to attain the fruits of this beautiful devotion. Thus, Lady, I humbly beseech you, saying:

God save you, Queen and Mother of mercy...

Ask for the particular grace you wish to obtain. End with the closing prayer.

Seventh day

O Virgin of Carmel, Most Holy Mary, who in your holy Scapular gave to those who devoutly wear it a most firm shield to defend themselves against all the dangers of this world and the snares of the devil, confirming this truth with so many and such singular miracles! I beseech you, Lady, to be my powerful defense in this mortal life, so that in all tribulations and dangers I may find security, and in temptations emerge victorious, always obtaining your special assistance to achieve this. Thus, Lady, I humbly beseech you, saying:

God save you, Queen and Mother of mercy...

Ask for the particular grace you wish to obtain. End with the closing prayer.

Eighth day

O Virgin of Carmel, Most Holy Mary, who exercise your special protection at the hour of death upon those who devoutly wear your holy Scapular, so that through true penance they may depart this life in God's grace and be delivered from the pains of hell! I beseech you, Lady, to assist, protect, and console me at the hour of my death, and obtain for me true penance, perfect contrition for all my sins, a burning love of God, and an ardent desire to see and enjoy Him, so that my soul may not be lost or condemned, but may go safely to the eternal happiness of glory. Thus, Lady, I humbly beseech you, saying:

God save you, Queen and Mother of mercy...

Ask for the particular grace you wish to obtain. End with the closing prayer.

Ninth day

O Virgin of Carmel, Most Holy Mary, who, extending your love to the Carmelites even after death, as the most compassionate Mother of those who wear your holy Scapular, console their souls in Purgatory, and through your intercession obtain their swift release from those sufferings to go and enjoy God, our Lord, in glory! I beg you, Lady, to obtain for me from His Divine Majesty that I may fulfill my Christian obligations and the devotion of the holy Scapular, so that I may obtain this most singular favor. Thus, Lady, I humbly beseech you, saying:

God save you, Queen and Mother of mercy...

Ask for the particular grace you wish to obtain. End with the closing prayer.

Closing prayer for every day

Most Holy Virgin of Carmel: I desire that all, without exception, may find shelter under the protective shadow of your holy Scapular; that all may be united to you, my Mother, by the close and loving bonds of this your beloved emblem.

O beauty of Carmel! Look upon us, prostrate and reverent before your sacred image, and graciously grant us your loving protection. I entrust to you the needs of our Holy Father the Pope and those of the Catholic Church, our Mother, as well as those of my nation and the whole world, my own needs, and those of my relatives and friends.

Look with compassion upon the many poor sinners who offend your divine Son, and upon the many who do not yet know Him. May they all be converted and love you, my Mother, as I desire to love you, now and for all eternity. Amen.
