Christianity in Oman has a history that dates back to apostolic times (in the case of some Eastern traditions) or to the arrival of European missionaries in the 16th and 17th centuries. Devotion to the Virgin Mary, although practiced by a minority of the population, has a significant presence among local Catholic communities. Mary is venerated as the Mother of God and protector of Christians in contexts where they are often a minority.
