Around 1420, the host rose on the chalice and drops of royal blood fell within the cup during the mass of Fra Pedro de Cabañuelas.

Documented history and memory received

El jerónimo Pedro de Cabañuelas appears linked to a tradition of the 15th century in Guadalupe: during a mass he would have contemplated blood signs that dissipated his doubts. The episode was represented by Valdés Leal in the 17th century and belongs to the devotional memory of the monastery. The historical person, the work of art and the Eucharistic cult are distinguished from the supernatural account. A material test subject to analysis is not claimed to be preserved.

Who venerates the memory

The look is directed to Jesus Christ and to the mystery of his Incarnation, Passion, Death, Resurrection or Reign. The image, relic, monument or custom does not act by its own power: it serves the memory of the Gospel and leads to prayer, sacraments, conversion and charity.
