Before San Antonio de Padua, a hungry mule kneeled before the Eucharist instead of eating, turning to a heretic that denied the real presence.
Documented history and memory received
Rimini retains a temple related to the preaching of St. Anthony and the tradition of a mule who would have kneeled before the Most Holy. In 2023 the diocese celebrated the eighth centenary of this memory through mass, procession and an explicitly commemorative representation. The scene belongs to the hagiography and popular piety; it is not presented as an experiment or as an argument against people of another conviction. The present diocese stresses that the Eucharistic fruit is solidarity.
Who venerates the memory
The look is directed to Jesus Christ and to the mystery of his Incarnation, Passion, Death, Resurrection or Reign. The image, relic, monument or custom does not act by its own power: it serves the memory of the Gospel and leads to prayer, sacraments, conversion and charity.
