Documented history
Alphonsa Muttathupadathu was born in 1910 and died in 1946. It belonged to the Franciscan clarisas of the Syrian-Malabar tradition, an Eastern Catholic Church in communion with Rome. His religious name, "Alphonsa de la Immaculate Concepción," expresses the place that Mary had in her religious identity; it does not mean that she had starred in a Marian apparition.
The documentation of the Holy See reflects its process of beatification and canonization. It was beatified in 1986 and canonized on 12 October 2008. The celebration of canonization was presented with Saint Mary Bernarda Bütler and Saint Narcisa of Jesus, a coincidence that showed the universality of the Church, but does not add new biographical episodes by itself.
Bharananganam was attached to his memory because there is concentrated the veneration of his grave and the sanctuary that bears his name. The map retains this specific reference to distinguish between the locality and a more precise statement about the exact place of each event of its life.
Marian Tradition and Devotion
The religious title of the Immaculate Conception allows you to explain your Marian devotion from the spirituality of a Syrian-Malabar religious. Mary is venerated as Mother and intercessor, and is asked to lead to Christ. Adoration belongs only to God. The sources consulted do not contain a personal Marian apparition to be presented as such.
The fact sheet also does not incorporate a specific legend of the sanctuary, nor does it attribute to Alfonsa cures or wonders that are not documented in the used file. Canonization recognizes its holiness in accordance with the Church's process; it does not automatically convert into supernatural facts all popular accounts that can circulate around its grave.

Anecdotes and stories
A significant dimension of his memory is the gathering of an Eastern Catholic tradition and a Franciscan form of life consecrated in Kerala. His celebration with a Colombian saint and an Ecuadorian saint recalls that canonical recognition is not limited to a single nation. The pilgrimage to Bharananganam preserves that memory in a specific place, with respect for history and without filling it with details that sources do not provide.
Prayer
Saint Alphonsa of the Immaculate, pray for those who live a disease, a trial or a hidden vocation. He asks the Virgin Mary to teach us to venerate her as Mother and intercessor and to follow Jesus Christ with patience, charity and fidelity. Amen.
