A desecrated host in the Netherlands that sprout blood; preserved in El Scorial since the time of Philip II.

Documented history and memory received

The Holy Form of El Escorial arrived in Spain in the 16th century from the Netherlands and is preserved in the sacristy of the monastery. The tradition links it to a desecration in Gorcum; the scene of his solemn exhibition was set by Claudio Coello in the great canvas commissioned by Charles II. National Heritage documents the artistic and palatine ensemble. The confessional account is placed in the context of religious wars and is not used to denigrate Protestants or to affirm current blood analysis.

Who venerates the memory

The look is directed to Jesus Christ and to the mystery of his Incarnation, Passion, Death, Resurrection or Reign. The image, relic, monument or custom does not act by its own power: it serves the memory of the Gospel and leads to prayer, sacraments, conversion and charity.
