During the looting of the Capuchin church on Mount Turin on May 12, 1640, a soldier tried to take over the pixid. A coetanea memory reports a sudden flame that stopped him.

History and context

The event belongs to the violent context of the Pyamontesa civil war and the French military plunder. The urban history published by MuseoTorino reproduces the core of a coetanean memory: by trying to steal the pixide, a language of fire would have reached the soldier. The narrative should be read within that conflict and not as a legitimization of violence, national hatred or desire for punishment.

What makes it possible to state the documentation

The historical source makes it possible to claim that the memory existed and was documented, but does not convert all its details into physically verifiable observation. The fact sheet avoids presenting the soldier's damage as a desirable moral message and focuses spiritual reading on respect for the Eucharist, conversion and peace.

Place on the map

The marker points Iglesia de Santa Maria al Monte dei Cappuccini · Turín. When the exact physical point of the episode is not known, the tab uses the temple or locality that conserves its memory and declares it without pretending to be non-existent.

Spiritual feeling

The Catholic faith in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist does not depend on accepting an extraordinary phenomenon. This memory invites reverent worship, participation in Mass, reconciliation and charity, never curiosity or superstition.

Para orar

Lord Jesus, living bread and humble presence among us, strengthen our faith, purify our heart and make Eucharistic worship bear fruit of peace, conversion and service. Amen.
