Our Lady of the Assumption of Brunai
The pro-cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, in Bandar Seri Begawan, is the mother church of Brunei and the seat of the Apostolic Vicariate of the country. The mission was born in 1927 and the present temple was dedicated on August 15, 1969, the feast of the Assumption.
🌹 Wonders and anecdotes
- The land of the first chapel was donated by a local Catholic, George Newn Ah Foott.
- John Paul II erected the Apostolic Vicariate of Brunei Darussalam in 2004, with this church as its seat.
- Aquí se celebró en 2021 el funeral del cardenal Cornelius Sim, primer cardenal de la historia de Brunéi.
- Its community is mostly migrant: Filipinos, Indians, Indonesian and Malaysian who find their spiritual home in the Assumption.

Of the approximately twenty-one thousand Catholics of Brunéi, the majority belong to this parish. The temple, extended and renovated in recent years, is the largest in the country and a refuge of faith for workers from all over Asia.
