Origin and history

The image is an old ivory and silver size of the 16th century, guarded in the Dominican shrine of Manaoag. The mission was founded in 1608, in the context of the Dominican evangelization of northern Luzon.

The tradition tells us that a peasant heard a voice that called him and saw the Virgin on the cup of a tree, among clouds; hence the name "Manaoag," related to "calling." The Dominicans built a first chapel and later the church where today the sanctuary is located, becoming one of the country's main pilgrimage centers.

"Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary of Manaoag, Mother of the sick and needy, pray for us."
His official title is "the Most Holy Rosary": the image bears the rosary and the sanctuary, Dominican, intensely promotes this prayer.
