Dare and the Seminar of Our Lady of Fatima (East Timor)
In the hills of Dare, on Dili Bay, the Minor Seminary of Our Lady of Fatima, a semillero of the Timorese clergy, operated for decades: founded in Soibada on 13 October 1936 by Jaime Garcia Goulart, moved to Dare in 1951 and was administered by the Jesuits since 1958.
🌹 Wonders and anecdotes
- The seminar was born on October 13, 1936 - the anniversary of the last apparition of Fatima - and formed generations of East Timorese priests and leaders.
- It was bombed on 13 December 1975, in the early days of the Indonesian invasion; since 1978 the institution has been continuing its work in Dili.
- Dare also keeps the memory of World War II: the Australian memorial of Dare-Fatanuba (1969) and its museum (2009) remind the soldiers and the Timorese who helped them.
- The devotion of the Timorese Carmelo lives today in the parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmelo of Zumalai, attended by the Carmelites since 2001.
