Ntra. Sra. de la Paz de Homs — La catedral melquita
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace is the seat of the Greek-Greek Catholic archeparch of Homs, built in 1849, which covers the governorates of Homs and Hama with about 30,000 faithful. Damaged during the siege of Homs (2011-2014), it was restored and the cult was recelebrated in it.
🌹 Wonders and anecdotes
- It is the cathedral of the Greek archbishop of Homs, Hama and Yabrud; the archeparchia was erected in 1849 under the Patriarch Maximus III Mazloum.
- He suffered serious damage during the siege of Homs; upon the withdrawal of the fighters, the Christians who returned to the old city undertook the reconstruction of their cathedral.
- Help the Church in need helped to repair the worst damage, and the cult was recelebrated in the cathedral.
- A few steps away, in the Syrian-Orthodox church of Umm al-Zunnar, the relic of the Belt of the Virgin is venerated: Homs is a truly Marian city.
