Pontevedra and Tuy: the first five Saturdays and the request of the consecration

A data that in Spain is ignored and should be known

The two apparitions containing the concrete requests of Fatima's message did not occur in Fatima: they occurred in Spain.

  • Pontevedra, 10 December 1925: the promise of the five first Saturdays.
  • Tuy, 13 June 1929: la formal request for the consecration of Russia"in union with all the bishops of the world."

In 1917, in the Cova da Iria, there are a notice: «I'll come ask the consecration of Russia... and the repairing communion of the first Saturdays. " The petition comes eight and twelve years later, in Galiciawhen Lucia was a Dorotian religious.

Y hay other date of method: Neither is in the body of the Memories. Van en los Apéndices I y II of the official edition. They are documents of a different nature, and you should know.

PONTEVEDRA - 10 December 1925

What kind of document is

The editor of the official edition explains this before giving the text (p. 190):

"The following text is a document written by Sister Lucia, at the end of 1927, by order of his spiritual director, Rev. P. Aparício, S. J. Shortly after having had this apparition, on December 10, 1925, in his cell, he wrote a first letter that was destroyed by Sister Lucia herself. This document is therefore the second wording, exactly equal to the first... "

Read slowly: the first written She burned it herself.. What we have is a second edition, from the end of 1927, that the editor declares "exactly the same as the first." It also consists of the critical documentation that Lucia said had burned that first text (DCF. Selection93, 27 January 1928, pp. 344-347). I'm not invalidating anything, pero hay que decirlo.

The text

"Day 10-12-1925, the Blessed Virgin appeared to her and, next to her, suspended in a light cloud, a Child. The Blessed Virgin, placing her hand on her shoulder and showing at the same time a heart she had on her other hand, surrounded by thorns.
At the same time, the Child said:
— Take pity on the heart of your Most Holy Mother, who is covered with thorns that ungrateful men at all times nail him without having to do an act of reparation to take them away.
Then the Blessed Virgin said:
— Look, my child, my heart is surrounded by thorns that ingrate men are continually nailing me with blasphemies and ingratitudes. You, at least, try to comfort me and say that for five months, on the first Saturday, all those who were confessing, receiving Holy Communion, praying the Rosary and making me fifteen minutes of company meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, in order to unravel me, I promise to assist you in the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of your souls.»

The four conditions - and the one that is always omitted

1. Confession

2. Communion

3. Rosary

4. Fifteen minutes of company meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary

During five first Saturdays in a row, and - this is the essential - with an intention to discredit.

The fourth is the one that is most omitted in disclosure. It is not enough to confess, communicate and pray the rosary: the promise includes the fifteen minutes of meditation. And none of the four is worth without the restorative intention, which is the soul of all devotion.

The supplementary apparition of 15 February 1926

Because conditions posed practical problems, and there was a response. Text in Appendix I, pp. 192-193, and in the form of an autograph letter in the critical edition (DCF. Selection84, letter from Lucia to Mons. Manuel Pereira Lopes, pp. 324-326):

«— Yes, it can be many more days yet, provided that, when I am received, you are in grace and intend to disagraviate the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
She asked:
- Jesus, what about those who forget to form that intention?
— They can form it in the next confession, taking advantage of the first time they have to confess.»

And the reason they are five and not 15:

«— It is true, my child, that many souls begin them, but few end them, and those who end them are in order to receive the graces that are promised there; and I am more pleased with those that do the five with fervor and in order to deagrate the heart of your Mother from Heaven, than those that do the fifteen, warm and indifferent...»

Why five: the revelation of the night from 29 to 30 May 1930

This is one of the least cited texts of the entire corpus of Fatima and is in full primary source: Letter from Sr Lucía to Fr. José Bernardo Gonçalves, Tuy, June 12, 1930 — DCF. Selection, doc. 128, pp. 522-524. Father Gonçalves had asked him six written questions; this is the answer to two of them:

"Staying in the chapel with Our Lord, part of the night of the 29th to the 30th of this month of May 1930 [...] I suddenly felt more intimately possessed of the Divine Presence and, If I don't cheat on myselfThe following was revealed to me:
My child, the reason is simple: there are five species of offending and blasphemy against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
1. The blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception.
2nd - Against your Virginity.
3rd - Against Divine Maternity, at the same time refusing to receive it as the Mother of men.
4th - Those who publicly seek to infuse in the hearts of children indifference, contempt and even hatred towards this Immaculate Mother.
5th - Those who abuse her directly in their Sacred Images.
Behold, my child, the reason why the Immaculate Heart of Mary led me to ask for this little repair... "

In the same letter there are two other useful and almost never mentioned answers:

"1st - When?) 10-12-1925. How?) Our Lord and the Most Holy Virgin show me their Immaculate Heart surrounded by thorns, asking for reparation. Where?) Pontevedra, Elizabeth II's journey; the first apparition in my room, the second next to the gate of the estate, where I was working.»
"5th - And who cannot meet all the conditions on Saturday, will not satisfy on Sundays?) The practice of this devotion will also be accepted on the Sunday following the first Saturday, when my Priests, for just reasons, consider it to the souls.»
📌 Note the caution of your own seer: "if I do not deceive you." Sister Lucia writes his revelations with conditionals. Whoever cites her without them is distorting her for excess zeal.

TUY - June 13, 1929

What kind of document is (important)

The editor first warns (p. 194):

«The text of this Appendix is not a document written by Sister Luciabut has all the guarantees of authenticity, as he was the spiritual director himself, at that time the Rev. P. José Bernardo Gonçalves, S. J., who transcribed it directly and literally from the notes of the lens.»

That is: is a transcript made by your confessor from notes of it. With guarantees, says the editor. But it's not an autograph. It's said.

The text

"13-6-1929 - I had asked for and obtained a license from my Superiors and Confessor to make the Holy Hour from 11: 00 to midnight, from Thursday to Friday. When I was alone one night, I kneeled in the balustrade, in the midst of the chapel, to pray, prostrate, the prayers of the Angel. [...] Suddenly the whole Chapel was illuminated with a supernatural light and on the Altar appeared a cross of light that reached the roof. In a clearer light it was seen, at the top of the cross, a man's face with the body to the waist, on the chest a dove also of light and, nailed to the cross, another man's body. [...] Under the right arm of the cross was Our Lady [...] with his Immaculate Heart in his hand... Under his left arm, large letters, as if they were of crystalline water running towards the Altar, formed these words: "Grace and Mercy».
I understood that the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity was shown to me and I received light on this mystery that I am not allowed to reveal.
Then Our Lady told me:
— The time has come when God asks the Holy Father to do, in union with all the Bishops of the World, the Consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart, promising to save it by this means. There are so many souls that God's Justice condemns for sins committed against Me, that I come to ask for reparation: sacrifice for this intention and pray.»

In the version published by the Sanctuary in its narrative, with an added paragraph in quotes: the Virgin appeared "was Our Lady of Fatima with her Immaculate Heart in her left hand, without sword or roses, but with a crown of thorns and flames».

📌 The decisive formula - "in union with all the Bishops of the world" - is from Tuy, 1929. It's not 1917. On these seven words the whole controversy of the consecration of Russia, which is discussed on its own page, revolves.

The epilogo: the complaint, and "like the king of France"

And the text follows a paragraph that is one of the hardest and least mentioned:

"Later, through intimate communication, Our Lady told me, complaining:
— They didn't want to meet my request!... Like the king of France, they will repent and do it, but it will be late. Russia will have already spread its mistakes throughout the world, provoking wars, persecutions of the Church: the Holy Father will have much to suffer.»

⚠️ CORRECCIÓN DE UN ERROR DE FUENTE MUY EXTENDIDO. This phrase - "as the king of France, they will repent and make it, but it will be late" - It's not Rianjo's 1931 letter., as published continuously. It's the 1936 text about Tuy's vision. They are different partsfrom different dates, and even the speaker changes according to the edition: in the text of the Sanctuary he speaks Our Lady; in the edition of Frère Michel de la Sainte Trinité speaks Our Lord. The Fatimite sources themselves disagree with each other. All this is developed on the page "Russia and consecration."

A second story of Tuy, dated "11-6-29"

There is another account of the same vision, found by Fr. António Maria Martins among the letters to Fr. Gonçalves and published in Fatima and the Heart of Mary in September 1984. Date of fact on 11 Junenot the 13, and makes the request with more demand: that the Pope do the consecration "and order that, in union with him and at the same time, all the bishops of the world do so.».

⚠️ Frère Michel himself, who publishes it, recognizes that you can't tell for sure when that story was written.and refers the issue to those responsible for the critical edition. Here it is. noted as abierto problem, no como prueba.

And a different formulation, of 1930, that cannot be mixed with the others

In a letter to the same P. Gonçalves del 29 May 1930 (DCF. Selection, doc. 125, pp. 516-518), Sister Lucia writes:

«If I don't cheat on myselfthe good God promises to end the persecution in Russia if the Holy Father deserves to do, and to command the Bishops of the Catholic world to do likewise, a solemn and public act of reparation and consecration of Russia to the Holy Hearts of Jesus and Maryby promising His Holiness, through the end of this persecution, to approve and recommend the practice of the already indicated reparative devotion.
I declare myself very afraid to be deceived., and the reason for this fear is not to have seen Our Lord personally, but only to sense his Divine presence. "

The fact that you have to keep in mind and that you miss it always: in this wording of 1930 the consecration requested is "to the Holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary"; in the text of Tuy of 1929 is"to my Immaculate Heart. "The two formulations are in primary sources and can't be mixed without saying.

"Finally my Immaculate Heart will triumph"

The final promise of the secret of July 1917. The official edition gives you this note, which is editor interpretation and not text:

"This promise is unconditioned; it will surely be fulfilled. We are the ones who, in fact, do not know the day that will come true."

«My Immaculate Heart will triumph. ¿Que quirere decir esto? That the heart opened to God, purified by the contemplation of God, is stronger than the rifles and that any kind of weapon. "
