Marian devotion
Virgin of the Blaverns and the Anthem Akáthistos (Constantinople)
Marian Invocation of Istanbul (Constantinople (historical))
Popular devotion (not officially recognized by the Church)

The image and the sanctuary
The temple of the Blaquerns is not preserved in its original form; in the place there remains a sacred spring (hagiasma) and a later Orthodox church. The Marian icon of the White Ones, of a praying type, was one of the most venerated in the city. The memory of the sanctuary survives especially in the liturgy and in Byzantine hymnography.
Sponsorship and coronation
The Virgin of the White Ones was invoked as a protector of Constantinople. There is no canonical coronation in the Latin mode.
Party and devotion
The Akáthistos anthem is solemnly sung in the Byzantine liturgy, in a way marked during Lent. Devotion has lived in the Eastern Churches as one of the great Marian praises, rather than as a cult of a building that no longer remains complete.
Link to the Rosary
The Akathistos, a litany of titles and praises to Mary, is in the East what the Rosary represents in the West: a repeated and contemplative prayer that goes through the mysteries of Christ through his Mother. They both share confidence in Marian intercession as the protection of the Christian people.
