In the Westphalia region of Germany, in the small town of Telgte near Münster, there is a deeply venerated Marian image that has drawn massive pilgrimages for centuries. It is Our Lady of Telgte, "Unsere Liebe Frau von Telgte," one of the ancient Marian shrines in this land of strong popular piety.

Generación tras generación, los fieles de Münster siguen subiendo a pie hasta la Madre de Telgte.

What can be stated with certainty, even in its simplicity, is deeply moving: a much-venerated Marian image has existed for centuries in Telgte, associated with major pilgrimages, and this devotion remains alive today in diocesan pilgrimages on foot, especially those departing from Münster. Tradition links it to a Pietà, an image of the Virgin Mary holding the body of the dead Christ in her arms, within that sorrowful piety so characteristic of Westphalian shrines. The site now belongs to the Diocese of Münster.

Here it's important to be honest about the limitations of the documented evidence. Local tradition speaks of an ancient sculpture of the Virgin with the body of Christ, of miraculous relocations or discoveries, and of promises made during times of war or epidemic. But these details—precise dates, names, circumstances of the supposed miracles—are not found in accessible and verifiable sources, and rather than risk unproven information, it's better to acknowledge that they belong to local historiography that hasn't been corroborated here. What is certain is the antiquity of the cult, its deep roots, and the continuity of the pilgrimages; everything else remains in the realm of tradition, not documented in detail.

Similarly, there is no established historical link between Our Lady of Telgte and the Rosary. By analogy with so many Central European shrines, it is reasonable to assume that the Rosary forms part of the devotion of pilgrims who walk the paths to Telgte, but a specific connection cannot be asserted without supporting evidence.

Thus remains the faithful portrait of a sanctuary beloved by its people: a Mother who waits in Westphalia and to whom, year after year, her children continue to come on foot, with the simplicity of someone visiting a family member.
