Blessed Maria Romero Meneses

Blessed Maria Romero Meneses was a daughter of Mary Assistant born in Nicaragua and linked for much of her religious life to Costa Rica. His Marian devotion was translated into concrete works: care for poor people, medical consultations, vocational training, catechesis and housing for families without resources. The Church beatified her in 2002. This fact sheet does not present as certified miracles the aid that the popular tradition assigns to its intercession.

Where is he?

The map uses as a reference the Casa de La Virgen, at 32 Sor María Romero Street in San José, Costa Rica. Nominatie identified the place as the 16642417 relationship and responded HTTP 200. The precision is verified_place: This is a cartographed place linked to his memory and works, not an affirmation of the exact point of his grave.

Documented history

María Romero was born in Granada, Nicaragua, on January 13, 1902, in a family that was well-suited and sensitive to the needs of the poor. Since he was young he showed talent for music and painting. At the age of 12 he met the Daughters of Mary Auxiliadora and discovered in Don Bosco a reference for his educational and social vocation. In 1923 he chose religious life as the Daughter of Mary Helper.

It was sent to Costa Rica in 1931. There he developed an apostolic activity that gathered catechesis, accompaniment and organization. Her students collaborated as missionaries in nearby villages, and also got the help of doctors, professionals and industry to meet needs that a single community could not solve. The Holy See describes the creation of free medical consultations and a medical-pharmaceutical outpatient for people without coverage.

María Romero also promoted training courses for young people and women, spaces for literacy and catechesis, and places of care for the sick and families. For those living under bridges or in very precarious situations, small houses were built with the help of collaborators. These works were named after the citadels of Mary Auxiliadora and continued after her death through the cooperation of the laity.

Along with this social dimension, he devoted many hours to spiritual accompaniment and personal listening. His biography speaks of a life of prayer and an intense relationship with Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, but a spiritual experience described by a biography does not in itself amount to an approved apparition. He died on 7 July 1977. John Paul II beatified her in Rome on April 14, 2002.

Marian Tradition and Devotion

Maria Auxiliadora took a central place in her Salesian identity. The Blessed invoked her as Mother and Queen and sought that Marian devotion would lead to education, charity and the proclamation of the Gospel. In the Catholic faith, Mary is venerated and asked to intercede; worship corresponds only to God.

The Costa Rican tradition retains testimonies of aid received through prayer and works promoted by Sister Mary. By not examining each case here or having a decree declaring them miracles, they are left as testimonies or devotional powers. What is clear is the existence of his social activity, his collaborators and the places that keep his memory.

Ecclesial State

María Romero Meneses beata de la Iglesia católica. It was beatified on 14 April 2002. Beatification recognizes his life and virtues according to the canonical process; it does not mean that all popular narrations about graces or cures have been declared miracles.

Anecdotes and stories

One of the keys to his method was to turn students, doctors, entrepreneurs and professionals into partners in a common mission. The history of free consultations and small houses shows an organized charity, capable of accompanying people beyond a timely help. This is why the House of Our Lady serves as a cartographic reference to a memory expressed in works and not only in stories.

Prayer

Blessed Maria Romero, pray for educators, for girls and women without opportunities, for the sick and for families without homes. He asks the Virgin Mary to teach us to serve with intelligence, generosity and perseverance, and to take us to Jesus Christ. Amen.
