Blessed Matilde of the Sacred Heart

Blessed Matilde of the Sacred Heart, Matilde Téllez Robles, founded the Institute of Daughters of Mary Mother of the Church. His life gathered prayer, Eucharistic devotion and service to the poor, sick, girls and young people. Don Benito retains the Matrix House and the memory of its remains, but the map uses the town as a territorial reference because it does not contain in the cross-checked cartographic sources an unequivocal geometry of the exact building.

Where is he?

The point points Don Benito, Badajozwhere the sources of the congregation place the Matrix House and the memory of the Blessed. OpenStreetMap identifies Don Benito's administrative relationship; therefore the accuracy is locality. The center of the town is not presented as GPS of the chapel or the urn of its remains.

Documented history

Matilde Téllez Robles was born in Robledillo de la Vera, Cáceres, on May 30, 1841. The biography of the Holy See describes it as a woman given to prayer and to intense apostolic activity. His service included the reception of orphan girls, home care for the sick, the promotion of working women and various ecclesial tasks.

The work he began received over time the name of Daughters of Mary the Mother of the Church. The source of the congregation places the first house in Béjar and the Matrix House in Don Benito, where Matilde died on December 17, 1902. The local memory retains its relics and the continuity of the educational and charitable mission of the Institute.

John Paul II recognized his heroic virtues in 2002 and the decree on the miracle attributed to his intercession was promulgated in 2003. It was beatified on March 21, 2004. Its ecclesial state is that of beata de la Iglesia católica; no subsequent canonization is stated which is not recorded in the sources consulted.

Prayer, action and service

The Holy See summarizes its spirituality with the union of contemplation and action. Matilde sought strength in prayer before the sacred and came to meet girls, young, poor and sick. This balance avoids separating devotion from responsibility: Christian prayer leads to a concrete and sustained charity.

Congregational sources count Don Benito's devotion to the memory of the foundress and the desire to ask for his canonization. These expressions are part of the devotional history of the place. The fact sheet does not transform that desire into a declaration of canonization, nor does it present as a proven fact any favour attributed to its intercession.

Mary and the Church

The spirituality of Matilde was deeply Marian and the very name of the Institute puts it under the title of Mary Mother of the Church. Mary is venerated as the Mother of Christ and her intercession is asked; worship corresponds only to God. The Eucharistic devotion of Matilde is described as the center of his life, without mixing it with extraordinary statements that do not contain.

Prayer

Blessed Matilde of the Sacred Heart, pray for the sick, the girls, the young and those who serve the poor. He asks Mary, Mother of the Church, to teach us to unite prayer with a generous and faithful charity. Amen.
