Santa Genoveva Torres Morales, known as the "Angel of Soledad," he founded the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and of the Holy Angels, also called angelic religious. His life was marked by disability, poverty and the accompaniment of single women.
Where is he?
The map places its memory in Zaragoza, where the sources of the congregation locate the Generalicia House and the chapel in which its remains rest. The OSM consultation did not offer an unequivocal geometry of the general house; therefore the coordinate is kept with precision localityas a territorial reference of Zaragoza and not as an invented GPS of the crypt.
Documented history
Genoveva Torres was born in Almenara, Castellón, in 1870. She was orphaned and was amputated by a leg, but her situation did not remove her from apostolic life. In Valencia he began a host work with a widow, the daughter of this and another collaborator. The aim was to offer company and home to women suffering from loneliness or abandonment.
The work was consolidated and the general headquarters was established in Zaragoza. The congregation itself documents that Genoveva died there on 5 January 1956 and that his remains were first deposited in a crypt under the main altar. In December 1994 they were transferred to a new chapel accessible to the faithful. These data explain the relationship between the saint and the zaragozano point of the map.
It was beatified in 1995 and canonized by John Paul II on 4 May 2003. The Holy See includes it among the canonizations held in Madrid. Its ecclesial state is that of canonized saint of the Catholic Church.
Loneliness turned into service
The name "Angel of Soledad" sums up a concrete work: to be with women who had no family or social support. It is not a legend about extraordinary interventions, but a welcome institutional and community memory. Disability appears in the sources as part of his biography and not as an obstacle that the Church must hide.
The general house was close to the Basilica of the Pilar, a proximity that is part of the spiritual geography of Zaragoza. The sources consulted do not describe a personal Marian apparition or approved private revelation. The relationship with Mary is presented in the framework of religious life and Catholic prayer: it venerates the Virgin and asked for her intercession, without confusing her with the worship due to God.
A recordar para capillary
The chapel where its remains rest retains a service memory that remains visitable. The map points to Zaragoza so as not to pretend an exact building that the cartography consulted has not safely identified. Territorial precision is a form of honesty: it allows to find the city and leaves open the future improvement if an unequivocal institutional mapping source appears.
A work born of vulnerability
Genoveva's biography does not present disability as a secondary note. After the amputation of a leg, he was closely aware of the dependence and the need for support, but the sources describe it by developing a host work for women living alone. The initial community was small and domestic; precisely why it allows us to understand that Christian charity can begin with humble means and grow without losing personal treatment.
The General House of Zaragoza brings together the memory of the founder and the continuity of the angelic religious. The transfer of his remains to an accessible chapel shows a pastoral decision to bring prayer closer to the faithful. The saint is not given automatic protection and no favors are promised: her intercession is requested and the example of a life given to accompany is considered.
Prayer
Santa Genoveva Torres, accompanies those who live alone and those who care for vulnerable people. He asks the Virgin Mary to teach us to stay close to the one who suffers and to turn compassion into faithful service. Amen.
